I was born while my parents were living at Seaside & Kalakaua Avenues ... way back before back in the day! I have written about Waikiki (first book: BACK DOOR WAIKIKI, numerous times as columnist and  associate editor of HONOLULU and HAWAII magazines for years.

But this is not about ME.  It is about an old friend (and akamai Mac/Apple guru) ROLF NORDAHL.  He also contributed to my most recent book about BARACK OBAMA from the day he was born at Kapiolani Hospital.  Well, actually, Rolf was friends with the president's grandfather and he wrote about that in my newest book http://tinyurl.com/c8j3bh

RECESSION RECIPE #1

My maternal grandfather came to NY from Hungary by way of Ellis Island at the turn into the 20th century.  When he became established he opened a diner in  New Brunswick, NJ.  How I happened to be born in Waikiki is another story.

But when I get off my okole I love to cook.  I am also watching the kala (money!) like everyone.  So this morning, with the few things on hand,  I created the BAGEL OMELETTE.  ZeroMeat and easy to do.

1 onion bagel cut into 1" pieces

1/4 onion chopped (Maui onions no ka oe.)

4 eggs (Oahu preferred)

1/3 cup margerine (butter OK)

Saute bagel pieces until brown.  Add onions.  When brown,  add eggs. Keep flipping until desired texture is achieved.  It takes on any other flavorings well.  My first attempt was with some catsup on top.  ONO~LICIOUS.  Let me know if you do it, and how it TASTES.  Aloha!

This is the Mission Statement of the Incredible Shrinking Honolulu Advertiser, established July 2, 1856. For more than 100 years this publication actually attempted to fulfill these ideals. But, under the direction of Gannett “Parachute Editors” (those dropped into a market with no knowledge of the place) the paper has become a vague shadow of itself. 

There are now perhaps five local stories in the front section. “Sports” consists of high school and UH event coverage. Award-winning editorial cartoonist Dick Adair was but one of many talented staff members fired in a series of cutbacks.  Every edition includes large “house” ads.

As a former contributor and subscriber for over 50 years, I feel that it is my duty to make these disgusting facts known to the public. 

MISSION definitely NOT ACCOMPLISHED.

As a fan of the Rams for 44 seasons, I am happy to have watched the man's career in every game he's  played in the NFL.  Headed for the Pro Football Hall of Fame, Holt is the top receiver this decade.  Number 81 played in Super Bowl 34, when he set a rookie receiving record, an has been in eight Pro Bowls here in Hawaii.  Good luck and please don't end up in the same conference.  A truly class act, TORRY HOLT!
